ST. LOUIS – [GAME 1 BOX] Missouri Baptist knew it was in for a fight against the No. 1 team in the nation and that is exactly what they got on Saturday against Freed-Hardeman (Tenn.). Missouri Baptist shot just 30.5 percent from the floor in a 90-50 loss in Henderson, Tenn.
Missouri Baptist (11-17, 10-14 AMC) tried to find answers for one of the best three-point shooting teams in the nation, but could not slow-down Coach Dale Neal's high-octane offense. The Lady Lions shot a cool 50 percent in the first and second halves of play and went 10-24 from three-point range in the regular season finale.
Saturday was also the return of Briya Wilborn to the Missouri Baptist roster and the guard did not disappoint. She led the team in scoring with 12 and added four steals.
Missouri Baptist led briefly, but were not able to get back in front after Tiffany Pate's bucket at the 6:22 mark of the first quarter.
The Lady Lions finished their season with an unblemished 24-0 record in the American Midwest Conference and a perfect 30-0 in the regular season.
Carrie Hatchel, who knocked-down four triples in the game led all scorers with 18. Senior Taleeah Cross finished with 15 while Kim Mallory followed with 14. Tiffany Pate led the squad in the paint with 13 rebounds.
Missouri Baptist will now gear-up for the American Midwest Conference Tournament, set to begin on Wednesday as the Spartans will head to Batesville, Ark., to take on the No. 2-seed, Lyon College Scots. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
