SPARTANS FALL SHORT AGAINST VIKINGS

ST. LOUIS – On a cold, windy day in Marshall, Mo., Missouri Baptist struggled to pick-up the big points against Missouri Valley College. The Spartans picked-up one doubles match and two in singles play as they fell to the Vikings, 6-3.

Missouri Baptist (3-5, 0-1 AMC/HAAC) dropped its first Unaffiliated American Midwest Conference/Heart of America Athletic Conference match of the season with a mix of nail-biting losses mixed-in.

Sean Nanney and Dylan Walker snagged the lone doubles win on the day with an 8-3 win over Greg Teal and Marius Castella at No. 3 doubles.

In singles action, Missouri Baptist grabbed wins at No. 1 and No. 3. Lucas Olivera bested Abdul Alhamzawi in straight sets 6-0 and 6-4 at No. 1 while James Tobin picked-up a win over Marc Kerndl 7-5, 6-1.

Singles at the number two position, however, may have been the most interesting of the day. Stefano Benedetti defeated Missouri Baptist' Ricardo Martin 7-6 (4) and 7-5.

Tobin and Martin came-up just short in doubles against Alhamzawi and Benedetti as well. The Viking duo won at No. 1 doubles by a slim 9-8 (5) margin to secure a team doubles win for the home team.

Missouri Baptist will head home for the first time on Tuesday when they face Fontbonne (Mo.) at Creve Couer Tennis Club. First serve is scheduled for 4:45 p.m.
