ST. LOUIS— Missouri Baptist Women's Volleyball continued their winning streak with a doubleheader sweep on Thursday afternoon in Miami.
The day began with a match against Florida Memorial University. The Spartans immediately hit the court ready for a win. Florida Memorial didn't stand a chance as MBU dominated the first set with 15 kills. The Spartans took the win in just 31 rallies, 6-25.
The second set was a little closer due to some Spartan errors, but they still managed to come out on top, 22-25. The Spartans finished off the match in the third set, defeating the Lions in three (14-25).
Marion Couraud was arguably the Lion's biggest threat, leading MBU in total aces (3), digs (14), blocks (5), and kills (12). Freshman Brilee Henson made her Spartan debut, chipping in 7 kills of her own. However, the victory could not have been possible without the 10 other Spartans that made their way onto the stat sheet.
Match two of the day looked to be another quick win for Missouri Baptist. Johnson & Wales was no match for the fired up Spartan squad.
MBU picked up where they left off in the first match, quickly defeating the Wildcats, 14-25. After the decisive first set victory, the Spartans rolled through sets two (15-25) and three (6-25) with ease, and came out with another match win.
Couraud was once again a force at the net, leading the Spartans with 15 kills. In just three matches, she has kicked off her senior season with 35 kills.
The Spartans have started off the 2017 season with a promising 3-0 record. Tomorrow they will head to the St. Thomas University Invitational where they will take on Warner University at 9 am, and host, St. Thomas at noon. They will finish off their trip to Miami on Saturday with a match against Olivet Nazarene at 9 am.
