MEN'S SOCCER TOPPLES BRESCIA FOR FIRST WIN OF 2017

ST. LOUIS—[BOX SCORE] Missouri Baptist Men's Soccer got back on track on Saturday afternoon with a 4-1 victory over Brescia University (Ky.).

Freshman Gabriele Zennaro got the goal scoring started in just the fourth minute. The Italian took a cross from fellow freshman Brandon Boos and calmly slotted it past the Bearcat keeper. The Spartans extended the lead to two in the 18th minute when Eduardo Maia netted a beautiful strike from nearly 25 yards out.

The Bearcats got on the board shortly before halftime but Missouri Baptist took control after the break. Gerardo Espinoza tallied his first of the season in the 55th minute after a perfect through ball from Ben Boyd.

Chase Droege then sealed the deal with his first career goal with five minutes remanining. Zander Tonnies played Droege in and the freshman from St. Charles, Mo. provided the cool finish.

"The boys came out much stronger than our opener," noted Head Coach Jake Alvernia. "They played with venom and vigor on both sides of the ball. Rafa [Rangel] and Eduardo [Maia] were excellent today in the middle of the park. We missed chances and need to improve in the final third.   We did a good job of creating chances. Proud of our effort today."

The Spartans are now back to .500 with a record of 1-1. Next up will be a trip to Canton, Mo. to take on Culver-Stockton on Wednesday, August 30. Kickoff is set for 7:30 pm.
