WOMEN'S SOCCER FALLS TO NO. 4 BENEDICTINE

Missouri Baptist Women's Soccer dropped their first match of 2017 on Saturday night with a 4-0 defeat to No. 4 Benedictine (Kan.).

After starting the season with back to back victories, the Spartans headed to Atchison, Kan. for a test with one of the best teams in the nation. For close to 80 minutes, they hung stride for stride with the highly touted Ravens squad.

Benedictine did, however, take a 2-0 halftime lead after two highlight reels goals. The first came in the 14thminute when Emily Ambuul got a head on a cross into the box from Madison Sanders. About 10 minutes later, Raven forward Anna Romano fired a missile from the top of the box into the upper left corner of the net. BC attempted 12 shots in the first half with five finding their way on goal. Spartan keeper Alex Lair made three saves to keep the deficit at two.

MBU was able to contain the Raven attack for most of the second half but the Spartan offense could not muster any substantial scoring opportunities. The home side finally broke it open in the 85th minute when Ambuul tallied her second. Rosie McShane followed with a fourth just one minute later.

Lair finished the match with eight saves as Benedictine attempted a whopping 23 total shots. The Spartans managed just 11 total shots with eight on goal.

MBU will now return home for a Labor Day matchup with No. 14 Martin Methodist (Tenn.). Kickoff on Monday is set for 11 am at Spartan Field.
