Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

ZENNARO SCORES LATE WINNER AS SPARTANS STUN PARK

ST. LOUIS—[BOX SCORE] Missouri Baptist Men's Soccer pulled off a 1-0 road upset victory over Park University on Wednesday night.

The Spartans and Pirates went toe to toe for 80 minutes without a goal before Gabriele Zennaro finally found the breakthrough for MBU. The freshman won a footrace to the Pirate penalty area and outmuscled the Park defender before firing home to give the Spartans the lead.

Missouri Baptist was well-aware of the high-powered Park offense coming into Wednesday's match. The Pirates entered having scored at least two goals in all seven of their matches so far this season. The Spartan defense was up to the challenge however. The backline held the home side to just four shots on goal though they did dodge a major bullet with 15 minutes left in the second half. The Pirates missed a golden opportunity when senior Daniel Jackson ricocheted a point blank shot off the crossbar.

The Spartans made the home side rue the missed chance just six minutes later when Zennaro posted his third goal of the season. It held up as the winner as Park was unable to test MBU keeper Davide Bucarelli the rest of the way. Bucarelli earned up the first clean sheet of his collegiate career and improved his record to 2-2.

Head Coach Jake Alvernia lauded the effort his team put forth on Wednesday night:

"The boys followed our game plan and put in a real effort," Alvernia said. "We created several good opportunities and Gabriele took his chance well. This was a big effort tonight and we needed it after our last game."

The Spartans snapped a three game winless streak and improved to 3-6 overall and 1-2 in AMC play. Park fell to 5-2 overall and 2-1 in the AMC. Missouri Baptist will look to keep the momentum going on Saturday when they take on Williams Baptist in Walnut Ridge, Ark. Kickoff is set for 1 pm
