ST. LOUIS— [BOX SCORE] Women's Volleyball continued their homestand on Friday, September 22, taking on the Lady Lions of Freed-Hardeman University. The Spartans swept the Lions, allowing them to stay undefeated in conference play.
Kristin Williams started the Spartans immediate lead, with help from sophomore Kelly Wilson who contributed to MBU's first two points with two kills. Missouri Baptist kept the lead throughout and finished the first set 25-18.
The Spartans started off the second set with a bang, yet again as they immediately took the lead. However, the Lady Lions were ready to bounce right back when they tied things up in the middle of the set. Seven consecutive serves from Cate Cigarini would eventually put the Spartans back on top, as they took the second set 25-19.
The Lions hit the court with a lot of momentum heading into the third set. After a few Spartan errors, Freed-Hardeman found themselves in the lead. A strategic timeout called by Head Coach Chris Nichols helped the Spartans find their groove as they came back to tie things up. As the game drew to a close, possession went back and forth. Two kills from Maggie Sorensen and a service ace from Rachel Luebbers finally concluded the match, 25-21.
This game was truly a team effort as nearly every Spartan made their way onto the stat sheet. Couraud and Wilson lead MBU in kills with 15 and seven, respectively. Ana Oliveira stepped up at setter, contributing 20 assists total.
The Spartans continue conference play on Saturday, September 23 as Williams Baptist College makes their way to the Petty SRC at noon.
