Game Recap: Women's Volleyball |

SPARTANS SWEEP STARS FOR SEVENTH CONFERENCE WIN

ST. LOUIS—Women's Volleyball continued conference play at Stephens (Mo.) on Monday evening. The No. 8 ranked Spartans advanced to an overall record of 20-2, sweeping the Stars, and remaining undefeated in the AMC.

Things got off to a slow start for the Spartans, as multiple errors gave Stephens a quick lead (5-1). The front line began to come alive, allowing MBU to take their first lead at 8-7. From there, possession was traded back and forth. The teams eventually found themselves tied at 17 when a kill from Hayley Richardson put Maggie Sorensen at the service line. The senior dished out six serves, helping MBU take a five-point lead (23-18). An error from the Stars and a kill from Caterina Cigarini gave the Spartans set one, 25-19.

Missouri Baptist found their groove in set two, quickly rolling past the Stars. They went on the claim the second set, 25-13. The third set was another tight one for MBU, as Stephens stayed right on their tail. However, a combination of Stars' errors and Spartan kills allowed MBU to eventually pull away. A service ace from Rachel Luebbers would seal the deal, giving Missouri Baptist the sweep.

Nearly every Spartan contributed to Monday's win. Senior Kristen Williams led the match in kills and blocks, finishing the evening with 10 and two, respectively. Fellow middle blocker Caterina Cigarini finished up right behind Williams with nine total kills.

Libero Rachel Luebbers finished the match with three service aces and 12 digs, while Megan Huffman led with 22 assists.

The Spartans continue conference play on Thursday, October 4th, taking on the (3) Columbia Cougars. The top ranked teams will battle it out at the Petty SRC starting at 7 p.m.
