ST. LOUIS—Missouri Baptist men's basketball took care of business on the road on Thursday night against St. Louis College of Pharmacy. The Spartans eased to an 80-53 victory to improve to 4-0 on the season and 1-0 in AMC play.
MBU started fast with a quick 7-0 lead in the first minute. The Eutectics cut it to four but the deficit would only grow from there before the halftime break. A 12-0 run by the Spartans ballooned the score to 25-7. A buzzer beater by STLCOP made the score 41-23 going into locker room.
College of Pharmacy used the momentum from the last second three and started the second half with 12-5 run. The Spartans fended off that surge, however, and back to back dunks from
Torrance Littles and
Pablo Hernandez ended any hopes of a comeback. It was smooth sailing from there as the visiting Spartans closed out the 25-point victory.
Three Spartans reached double figures, led by sophomore
John Yaeger. The Lutheran South product set a new career-high with 19 points (7-8 FG) while also pulling down nine rebounds.
Pablo Hernandez posted 16 points while
Callum Barker finished with 10.
Torrance Littles tied Yaeger for the team-lead with nine boards in a game in which MBU nearely doubled its opponent in total rebounds (49-25). Littles also blocked four shots.
Missouri Baptist will continue a string of road games with a trip to Park on Saturday afternoon. The Spartans and Pirates will tip off at 3 pm from the Breckon Sports Center.
