DES MOINES, Iowa – The Missouri Baptist University women's basketball team was unable to find any traction against host GVU on Saturday evening at the Grand View Classic as the Spartans dropped their second-straight contest to a team receiving votes in the NAIA DI Women's Preseason Poll. The Vikings on the other hand were firing on all cylinders and coasted to a 105-56 victory over the Spartans.
From the get-go, MBU had to combat a sharpshooting Grand View squad which knocked down five 3-pointers in the first quarter alone. The Vikings continued to find the hot hands throughout, going 12-for-20 and a sizzling 60 percent clip from beyond the arc. On the flip side, Missouri Baptist struggled to find its touch from 3-point range hitting just one of 14 attempts.
After getting out-rebounded 50-23 in the first game of the Grand View Classic last night, the Spartans did improve in that area on Saturday holding a slight 39-38 edge in the category versus GVU.
Junior
Megan Fassino was the only Spartan to score in double figures as she went 5-for-10 from the field to finish with 10 points. The rest of the MBU starters were perfect from the charity stripe (10-for-10), but combined to shoot just 4-of-27 (.148) from the floor. The Spartans had three players from bench score six points apiece including
Alexia Duncan,
Allison Meyer and
Le'Ondra Wilson.
Grand View's Rylee Voss led all scorers with 15 points and was one of six Vikings in double digits.
The Spartans will have a nice break before their next game on the road. MBU returns to action on Monday, Nov. 12 at Evangel University in Springfield, Mo.
