SIOUX CITY, IOWA—Women's Volleyball advanced to the round of 16 on Friday afternoon. They faced off with Midland University (Neb.) for the second time, hoping for redemption after previously falling to them at the beginning of the season. The Spartans put up a hard fight but ultimately fell to the Warriors in four sets.
The teams immediately went point for point in set one. Tied at 8-8, a Spartan error gave Midland possession, allowing them to take the lead. Missouri Baptist fought back, but the Warriors managed to maintain the lead. Midland led 23-17 when an unforced error gave the Spartans a chance. They rallied back all the way within one point (22-23), but two kills from Midland gave them set one, 25-23.
Set two followed suit, with teams trading points early on. This time it was the Spartans that would go on a scoring run. With Missouri Baptist up 14-8, Midland utilized their second timeout. They nearly caught the Spartans, but fell just short, as MBU claimed set two, 25-22.
The third set was a slow start for the Spartans, as Midland took an early lead. Trailing by four, errors began to plague Missouri Baptist, allowing Midland to continue to push ahead. Midland would go on to take the third set, 25-17.
The Spartans hit the court for set four ready to battle it out, as the teams went back and forth, once again. The Warriors began to pull away, but MBU quickly answered back, dishing out several kills. The Spartans trailed by two (16-18) when Midland called for a timeout. Out of the break, Midland regained possession and went on another scoring run. The Spartans would get a couple more chances, but the Warriors proved to be too much. They would go on to take set four (25-18), and the match, ending the Spartans 2018 season.

The Spartans end the 2018 season with an overall record of 33-6.
