ST. LOUIS, Mo.—The Women's Lacrosse team took on the Fighting Bees of St. Ambrose University for the first time in history on Saturday. The Spartans continued their winning ways, defeating the Bees by two goals.
St. Ambrose's Dallas Baker quickly started off the scoring, putting the first goal of the match in the net barely a minute in. MBU's
McKenna Fisher responded shortly after, tying things back up. From there it was a scoreless ten minutes until SAU started blazing past the Spartan defense. They scored four times within a five minute period, putting them ahead by three. MoBap's
Grace Adams and
Audrey Frost managed to close the deficit to one before the half (5-4).
After a ten minute break, the Spartans hit the field reenergized, as Frost tied the score just seconds into the second half. It was from there that SAU seemed to be no match for the Spartans, as MBU scored five more (5-10), giving them a hefty lead.
With about ten minutes remaining, St. Ambrose took their shot at a comeback, as they scored three more, putting them within reach of MBU. Fisher launched one more past the goalie to extend the Spartan lead even further. The Bees scored the last goal of the match, however, it was not enough to catch the Spartans, as MBU took their second consecutive win, 11-9.
Audrey Frost led the match in goals with a total of four.
McKenna Fisher finished the day with five draw controls, four ground balls, two goals and one assist.
Kaitlin Mills finished the day with a whopping 21 saves.
The Spartans are back in action at CBC Stadium on Wednesday, March 28. They'll take on the Braves of Ottawa University at 1 pm.
