Game Recap: Softball |

SPARTANS EARN WIN NUMBER 20 IN PARKVILLE

ST. LOUIS—[BOX GAME 1] [BOX GAME 2] Spartan Softball moved its season record to 20-9 with a win and a loss against Park University on Saturday afternoon. The Spartans dropped game one 4-3 before storming back for an 11-6 victory in game two.

Missouri Baptist briefly held a 1-0 lead in the opening inning of game one. Ally Gischer led off with a triple and scored on a sac fly from Jordan Corby. The Pirates scored three in the bottom half of the first and added another in the second. After that, however, MBU starter Baleigh Koester settled in and held the home side to four hits and no runs in the final five innings.

Gischer tripled for the second time in the third inning and was again brought home on a ball off the bat of Corby. This time it was an error that helped the cause. They would then narrow it to 4-3 in the fourth on a double steal. Reily Kassay took off from third and scored as Meghan Mollet was caught trying to swipe second.

That would be as close as the Spartans could get as Park starter Lexie Duncan allowed just one hit in the final three innings.

Another quick start put MBU in front in game two. Meagan Elder earned an RBI with a single to score Gischer.

The Spartans scored three more in the third and held a 4-3 advantage entering the sixth. The bats busted loose at that point. Gischer drove in two and Caitlin McNiff added one, both on base hits. MBU would go on to send eight to the plate in the seventh, coming away with four more runs. RBIs from Gischer, Reily Kassay, and Corby put the Spartans in double digits. They would hang on for an 11-6 victory.

Delissa Dennison (two innings), Ally Dunaway (two innings), and Koester (three innings) combined to hold Park in check in the pitcher's circle. Dunaway was given credit for the win.

The offense was paced by the shortstop and leadoff hitter, Ally Gischer. The freshman finished the day 8-9 with three RBIs and six runs scored. Reily Kassay also took advantage of an opportunity at the plate, going 3-4 in game two with three runs scored.

Missouri Baptist is now 20-9 overall and 8-4 in the AMC. They'll play Lindenwood-Belleville at home on Monday. First pitch is scheduled for 2 pm.
