KOESTER DOMINATES AS SPARTANS SWEEP PIONEERS

ST. LOUIS—[BOX GAME 1] [BOX GAME 2 ] MBU Softball did not allow a run on Friday afternoon in a two-game sweep (9-0, 5-0) of Crowley's Ridge. Baleigh Koester started in the pitching circle and earned the win in both games.

The Spartans started fast with two unearned runs in the second inning of game one. After a sac fly by Meagan Elder in the third, MBU put the game out of reach in the fourth. Miranda Brown launched her second home run of the season, a two-run shot, to make it 5-0. After two more unearned runs, Elder capped off the inning with a double that plated two more.

The six-run sixth gave Missouri Baptist a 9-0 lead and put the 'up eight after five' rule into play. Koester set the Pioneers down in order in the fifth to finish the game early. The freshman struck out 10 and only allowed one hit.

Game two was a full seven inning contest but the result was the same for Missouri Baptist. Koester was dominant once again in five shutout innings before turning things to Ally Dunaway for the final two frames.

It was 2-0 MBU in the third when Caitlin McNiff delivered a double to score Meghan Mollet. It was McNiff's team-leading 44th RBI of the season. The Spartans completed the scoring in the fourth with two more runs. After Reily Kassay scored on a passed ball, Ally Gischer singled up the middle to bring home Amber Mobbs.

Dunaway pitched a clean sixth and seventh inning and the game finished 5-0. The Spartans are now 26-11 overall. They resume AMC action on Saturday afternoon against Harris-Stowe (6-13, 2-10 AMC). First pitch is scheduled for noon at the Spartan Softball Field.
