SPARTANS TAKE TWO AGAINST LYNX

ST. LOUIS – [GAME ONE] [GAME TWO] Missouri Baptist piled up two more wins against Lindenwood-Belleville on Thursday. The ever-present offense powered the 12-7 and 8-3 victories.

Robby Brewster took the ball for the Spartans in game one and posted two scoreless innings to begin the game.

The MBU offense backed up Brewster by scoring two runs in the bottom of the first on three hits and two errors.

Four more runs were tacked on in the second on Drew Brooks' grand slam to right field. The slugging shortstop now has six home runs and 25 RBIs in 2018.

Lindenwood fought back in the top of the third. The Lynx scored five runs on five hits off Brewster to pull the score to 6-5.

The Spartans got some breathing room in the bottom half thanks to RBIs from Tommy Nawa and Wayne Roberts. The offense went on to score one in the fourth, one in the fifth, and two more in the sixth. There was not one frame where MBU came away empty handed.

Lindenwood put up two more before the game ended and ultimately fell to the mighty Spartans 12-7.

The offense had six starters get more than one hit in the 12-run onslaught. Brewster improved his record to 4-2.

Game two did not start much differently. After being set down in the first inning, the Spartans put up four runs in the second.

Gabriel Castillo singled home Jonathon Pasillas for the first run of the game. Later in the inning, Dillon Harp drove in a pair with a double to left field. Roberts wrapped up the second inning scoring with a RBI double to center.

Pasillas kept the fun going in the bottom of the third with a solo shot to left field that put the Spartans up 5-1.

MBU rattled off three more combined runs in the fourth and fifth innings. Harp hit a solo homerun in the fourth and Roosevelt Henderson blasted a two-run shot in the fifth.

Enough about the offense though, because Austin Schiber had himself a game. Schiber only allowed three runs (one earned) on ten hits and seven strikeouts over seven innings.  Hayden Crowe and Trevor Chaney threw scoreless innings out of the bullpen to close the game out.

After their 8-3 game two victory, the Spartans now boast a 13-5 AMC record (21-13 overall).

MBU will be looking for the series sweep against Lindenwood-Belleville on Friday at Spartan Field. First pitch is scheduled for 12 p.m.
