SPARTANS TAB FOURTH CONSECUTIVE SWEEP

ST. LOUIS—The No. 3 ranked Spartans continued their winning ways on Saturday, as they claimed two more sweeps. With these wins, MBU advances to a record of 7-2, with a six-game win streak.

Their first matchup was against the Royals of Warner University (Fla.) Set one was another game of back and forth for MBU, as the squads traded points early on. The Spartans managed to maintain the lead, however, eventually coming out of the set on top (25-23).

Set two was another story, as MBU quickly rolled to a five-point lead. They would stay ahead, taking set two with ease (25-15). The third set was another tight battle up until about halfway through when the Spartan offense came alive. Kills from Ana Oliveira, Caterina Cigarini and Mallory Moran put the Spartans ahead by five, once again. They took set three, and their third consecutive sweep (25-15).

For their final match at the St. Thomas Invite, MBU faced off with the Keiser (Fla.) Seahawks. Just like the previous match, the first set was neck and neck, with MBU coming on top (25-21). The Spartans took another quick second set win, as well (25-9). The third set looked to be a close one, as Keiser hit the court ready to push the game to extra sets. As the Spartans slowly began to lose gas, the Seahawks used it to their advantage, keeping the lead late into the game. After a couple Seahawk errors, the game was all tied up at 21 each. From there the Spartans came out on top (25-23), claiming their fourth sweep in a row.

Mallory Moran dominated on offense, clocking out at 26 kills (4.33 hitting percentage). Ana Oliveira and Cate Cigarini followed closely behind with 17 and 13 total kills, respectively. Oliveira also led the team in digs with 24.

Setters Nicole Bott and Aubrey Wilson finished with 46 and 23 assists, respectively.

The Spartans are back in action on Friday, August 31. They'll head to Columbia, Mo. to compete in the Hampton Inn Classic. They look to take on (22) Indiana Wesleyan at 11 a.m.
