ST. LOUIS— The Spartans and CBC Mustangs could not find a goal in 110 minutes of play on Friday and finished 0-0 in American Midwest Conference action at Spartan Field.
Chances were few and far between for both sides for most of the day. MBU managed two shots on target in the first half while CBC was held off the board. The second 45 was 4-1 in terms of SOG in favor of the navy and white.
The match went to double overtime and with 2:29 left, it appeared as though the home side would be gifted a late win. A Spartan corner kick deflected off the hand of a Central Baptist player inside the box.
Victor Rada stepped forward to take the penalty for Missouri Baptist but the senior's attempt unceremoniously sailed wide.
That would be the final chance as the game ended at 0-0. MBU goalkeeper
Davide Bucarelli earned his third consecutive clean sheet. The sophomore made history with his sixth shutout of 2018, a new single-season Missouri Baptist record.
Missouri Baptist moved to 5-3-2 overall and 1-1-1 in AMC play.
The Spartans' next challenge will be against Harris-Stowe next Wednesday, September 26. Kickoff at Spartan Field will be 1 pm.
