WOMEN'S VOLLEYBALL ATOP THE AMC STANDINGS

ST. LOUIS—The Spartans continued conference play at Lindenwood University-Belleville on Wednesday. Although they dropped their first set in six matches, MBU still managed to take the win in four over the Lynx.

The first set began in Missouri Baptist's favor, as they quickly scored six consecutive points. A Lynx kill finally put them on the board, but the Spartans managed to keep a decent lead. However, multiple Spartan errors kept LU-Belleville just within reach throughout. MBU found themselves up by four, until the Lynx sparked a run, tying things up at 19, 20 and 21 apiece. Thanks to a few late Spartan kills, and a Belleville error, MBU snuck past the Lynx, taking set one, 25-23.

Sets two and three were nail-biters as the teams continued to battle it out. In the second, errors plagued both squads, however, Belleville stayed just a step ahead, taking set two, 25-20. Set three followed suit, but this time with the Spartans coming out with the win, 25-21.

With MBU back on top (2-1) and Spartan adrenaline running high, the Lynx visibly began to lose gas. Missouri Baptist coasted to a 25-10 win, ending the match in four sets.
Outside hitter Mallory Moran led the match in kills, clocking out with a total of 19. Caterina Cigarini finished up right behind Moran with an impressive 11 kills on 18 attempts (.556 hitting percentage).

On the defensive front, libero Rachel Luebbers finished with a match-leading 15 digs. Setter Nicole Bott dished out 41 of MBU's 43 total assists.

With this victory, the Spartans advance to a 16-game win streak and remain undefeated in the AMC (6-0). Next, they will play host to some tough competition, taking on (RV) Ottawa University (Kan.) on Friday, and reigning National Champions, (4) Lindsey Wilson College (Ky.) on Saturday. Both matchups are scheduled for 1 p.m. at the Petty SRC.
