EUTECTICS' STRONG SECOND HALF DOOMS SPARTANS

ST. LOUIS – The quest for back-to-back wins in 2018-19 is still active for the Missouri Baptist University women's basketball team. On Thursday evening, the Spartans suffered the program's first-ever loss to St. Louis College of Pharmacy as the visiting Eutectics caught fire in the second half and left the Petty Sports & Recreation Complex with a 67-53 victory.

Entering the contest, Missouri Baptist owned a 17-0 record against the Eutectics overall and were 8-0 at home. The Spartans dropped to 4-12 on the year and 3-9 in the AMC, while STLCOP moved to 6-12, 2-10 AMC.

In the first quarter of action, the Spartans' defense picked up where it left off on Tuesday, applying consistent pressure to St. Louis College of Pharmacy and forcing the Eutectics to shoot 20 percent (4-for-20) for the quarter. Unfortunately, the MBU offense had a sluggish start and couldn't take advantage of the visitor's slow start. The Spartans led by just two heading into the second quarter (11-9).

Senior Kadesha Cooper helped MBU pick things up in the first four minutes of the second stanza, guiding the Spartans to an 8-2 run. As the period went on the defense started to fade. STLCOP matched MBU's 13 points in the quarter and trailed by one basket at halftime.

Without much of a cushion for the Spartans, the Eutectics pounced on the opportunity and took their first lead of the game at 27-24 just 1:20 into the third.

After shooting 8-for-35 from the field in the first half, St. Louis College of Pharmacy caught fire at the right time. The Eutectics notched 24 points in the third quarter, while shooting 50 percent overall and 7-for-8 (.875) at the free-throw line.

Coinciding with a Spartan dry spell, the Eutectics proceeded to shoot even better in the final quarter hitting on 9 of their 17 attempts (.529). STLCOP outscored the Spartans 21-9 in the fourth.

As a team, the Spartans couldn't get anything going from 3-point range as they shot just 2-for-15 on the night. Additionally, Missouri Baptist lost the battle on the boards with STLCOP snagging 43 rebounds to the Spartans' 38.

The Eutectics had three scorers in double figures led by bench player Michon Forrest, who scored a game-high 16 points.

MBU was led by Kadesha Cooper with 12 points, however, the senior was limited to just four points in the second half after a stat line of 8 points, 3 rebounds and 2 assists at halftime. Joining her in double digits was Alissa Rowden for the ninth time this season. Rowden, finished the game with 11 points on 5-of-8 shooting.

Le'Ondra Wilson came up just short of a double-double recording eight points to go along with a career-high nine rebounds.

The Spartans wrap up their three-game homestand with a 1 p.m. showdown on Saturday with Park University (6-10, 5-7 AMC).
