Game Recap: Men's Volleyball | | Karlye Jones

SPARTANS EARN FIRST SWEEP OF THE SEASON

ST. LOUIS—Men's volleyball traveled to Belleville, Ill. to take on their first conference opponent of the season on Monday. The Spartans rolled out to a quick victory, earning their first sweep, and advancing to a 3-0 record.

The match started off rocky for Lindenwood- Belleville, as errors combined with several Spartan kills allowed MBU to quickly take control. Missouri Baptist led by seven (19-12) when the Lynx utilized their first timeout. The break had little impact on MBU, however, as they continued to push their lead. A kill followed by a service ace from Luka Cajic would give the Spartans set one, 25-16.

The Lynx gained momentum in set two, as the teams went point for point early on. Tied at 3-3, Steven Rodriguez regained possession for the Spartans dishing out a kill followed by three consecutive service aces, putting the Spartans ahead by five (8-3). From there, MBU maintained the lead, cruising through the remainder of the set (25-17).

Set three was all MBU as they immediately took control, once again. The Spartans continued putting up kills, halting the Lynx chance at a fourth set. Another kill from Cajic sealed the deal, giving MBU the third and final set, 25-12.

Outside hitter Steven Rodriguez led the match in the kills' category earning a total of 12 (.588 attack percentage). The senior also put up six service aces. Luka Cajic followed close behind with nine kills total.

Stephen Menzel put up a match-leading seven digs, while setter Jason Harman clocked out at 26 assists.

The Spartans return to St. Louis for a two-game homestand this week. They take on Quincy (Ill.) on Wednesday and Mount Mercy (Iowa) on Thursday at the Petty SRC.
