SPARTANS OVERPOWER STEPHENS IN 3-0 SWEEP

COLUMBIA, Mo. – The No. 1-ranked Missouri Baptist University women's volleyball team notched its 25th win of the season with a clean sweep of Stephens College on the road. And for the seventh match in a row, the Spartans went without yielding a set to their opponent, defeating the Stars, 25-13, 25-14, 25-10.
 
As a team, Missouri Baptist (25-4, 7-1 AMC) held the advantage in all facets of the match. The Spartans nearly doubling SC's kill total, 39-20, held a 7-3 advantage in service aces, 7-1 in blocks and 52-32 in digs. MoBap hit .360 for the match, while holding Stephens to a .000 attack percentage, including the last two sets when the Stars hit in the negative.
 
Despite an early deficit to begin the match, Missouri Baptist responded in a big way scoring eight straight points to take a 16-11 lead. During that stretch, outside hitter Isidora Stojovic made play after play to put the Spartans on top for good. The junior from Belgrade, Serbia rattled off three service aces in a row. In all, the Spartans scored in 16 of the last 18 rallies to take the set, 25-13.
 
Sets 2 and 3 were similar in that the Spartans were able to pull away from Stephens with large runs while the Stars went silent. After hitting .074 in the opening set, Stephens was held to -.023 and -.036 in the second and third sets. Missouri Baptist grabbed wins of 25-14 and 25-10 to secure its 25th victory in 26th outings.
 
Senior middle blocker Caterina Cigarini led all players with 10 kills on 16 swings (.563). The freshman duo of Carlee Wise and Lisanne van Houwelingen were next in line offensively with 5 kills apiece. Wise had a breakout match with a season-high 4 blocks including two of the solo nature.
 
Morgan Berry and Nicole Bott shared setting duties on Monday night with the former posting 23 assists, 6 digs, and a pair of blocks and the latter logging 9 assists.
 
Defensively, libero Ariana Macies had an active role with just two sets of on the court. The junior from Santa Fe, Argentina recorded 14 digs (7.0 d/s). Senior outside hitter Megan Williams was ssecond on the team in digs with a career-high 9 digs.
 
Other notable performances included Brilee Henson and Giovanna Tapigliani with 4 kills apiece and Raylyn Dodd and Kaili Smith with 3 kills.
