CONWAY, Ark. – Missouri Baptist Men's Soccer twice held the lead in the second half on Saturday but ultimately settled for a 2-2 draw with Central Baptist College in Conway, Ark.
A slow first half resulted in just one shot on goal for the Spartans but things picked up less than two minutes into the second half.
Cullen Barr forced a turnover deep in Mustang territory and fired home from the top of the box. Barr's 10
th of the season extended his team-lead.
After CBC tied the game in the 54
th minute,
Seosamh Sheerin restored the lead in 65
th.
Mattia Giangrande delivered a corner that found
Jona Oesterling. Oesterling was then able to feed Sheerin who finished off his first career goal.
Again, though, the lead wouldn't last long. This time it was a penalty kick in the 70
th minute by CBC's Tyler Maynard that equalized. The stalemate persisted through the rest of regulation and two 10-minute overtime periods. Neither team managed a shot on goal in OT though Maynard narrowly missed the game-winner when he rang one off the post with less than a minute to go.
The Spartans (8-2-2, 3-1-1 AMC) will return home to face Lyon College (8-4-1, 4-1-1 AMC) next Saturday. Kickoff at Maryville Field is scheduled for 4 pm.
