ST. LOUIS— A first half goal from sophomore
Miranda Pratt was all Missouri Baptist Women's Soccer needed to knock off Lindenwood-Belleville in the AMC Quarterfinals on Friday afternoon. The Spartans now carry a program record nine-game winning streak into Monday's semifinals.
In the final meeting ever between the Spartans and the Lady Lynx, it was Missouri Baptist who controlled possession in the LUB end of the field for the majority of the day. After three chances missed wide of the target in the first 15 minutes, it was a relatively innocent play that led to a 1-0 lead for MBU.
Madi Dunahue tried a cross to the back post but it took a deflection off a Lynx defender and then off goalkeeper Emma Sabath. The rebound landed at the feet of
Miranda Pratt who touched it home into an open goal.
Pratt's first goal of the season was all the Spartans really needed. Lindenwood-Belleville struggled to mount an attack against the stonewall Mo. Bap backline. Seniors
Jackie Hagan and
Brianna Merchant dismissed any and all scoring threats that came their way in a dominant defensive performance. Goalkeeper
Jemica Artillaga made three saves for her sixth shutout of the season.
The Spartans will now await the winner between William Woods and Harris-Stowe which will be played Friday night at 6 pm. If William Woods wins, the semifinal will be played Monday in Fulton, Mo. If Harris-Stowe wins, the Spartans will host once again at Maryville. All tournament games will be streamed on portal.stretchinternet.com/amc.
*Update: William Woods defeated Harris-Stowe 3-2. Monday's game will be played in Fulton, Mo. with a start time of 1 pm.*
