SPARTANS SWEPT AT THE HANDS OF SECOND RANKED LIONS

O'FALLON, MO. – (RV) MBU Baseball fell behind early on Friday afternoon and couldn't recover in a 7-2 defeat to (2) Freed-Hardeman. The Lions completed the sweep in the first conference series of the season for both teams.

FHU jumped on Spartan starter Josh Sieglitz right out of the gate with a leadoff home run in the bottom of the first inning by shortstop Bryce Lester. They added four more in the second via five hits and a walk.

Missouri Baptist pulled one back in the fourth when Drew Brooks led off with his fourth home run of the year. Freed-Hardeman responded with two more in the bottom half to make it 7-1. Two Spartan errors did not help the navy and white cause.

The one bright spot of the day for Mo. Bap was the work of the middle relief group. Trevor Chaney, Tyler Baca, Hayden Crowe, and Manny Pizarro combined for five scoreless innings and conceded just two hits.

The Spartans' overall record now stands at 6-5 (0-3 AMC). They'll return to action on Tuesday with their first home game of 2019. The Culver-Stockton Wildcats will visit for a single, nine-inning contest. First pitch is scheduled for 1 pm.
