SPARTANS PUSH WIN STREAK TO 12

ST. LOUIS—The No. 2 ranked Spartans finished up their time in Sioux City, Iowa at Briar Cliff University on Saturday afternoon. Although they dropped their first set since facing Mount Mercy (Iowa), they still managed to take the win in four sets.

Set one was a bit of a slow start for Missouri Baptist as errors allowed BCU to stay right on their tail. The Spartans led by two (10-8) when several consecutive mistakes gave the Chargers possession, allowing them to take the lead. MBU tried for a late comeback, but errors stunted their chances. Briar Cliff took the first (25-21), giving MBU their first set loss in their last seven matches.

The Chargers took a quick lead in set two as errors continued to hold MBU back (4-1). The Spartans were down by three (12-9) when they eventually found their groove. The MBU offense dished out four consecutive kills, followed by a service ace from Luka Cajic to take the lead (14-12). Briar Cliff would tie it again at 15 apiece, but more kills from MBU gave them their last lead of the set. They'd take the second, 25-22.

The score remained tight early on in sets three and four. However, the Spartans managed to easily run away with the lead in each as errors disabled the Chargers. Missouri Baptist took the match in four sets, retaining their perfect record (25-15 and 25-17).

Luka Cajic led the match in kills by a mile, finishing with a season-high 23 total on an impressive .513 attack percentage. The outside hitter also put up eight digs.

The Spartans are back in action at the Petty SRC on Wednesday, February 13. They will go head to head with the (3) Pirates of Park University at 6 p.m.
