OFFENSE POWERS SPARTANS TO ANOTHER SWEEP

O'FALLON, Mo. – (RV) Missouri Baptist Baseball cruised to its seventh consecutive win with a 14-1 thrashing of Park (Mo.) on Friday afternoon. The Spartans completed the sweep and moved to 13-5 overall and 6-3 in the AMC.

After falling behind in the opening frame, the MBU offense responded by sending all nine men to the plate in a five-run bottom of the first. DeShawn Lookout got the action started with an RBI ground-rule double. After Domonique Hernandez drove in a run on a ground out, Anthony Enwiya sent a bloop single into short right field to score another. Michael McGhee finally capped it off with a two-run double of his own.

With Josh Sieglitz in control on the mound for the Spartans, the offense did the rest of its damage in the fourth. This time they batted around and brought seven runs across the plate on eight hits. A three-run, line drive home run by Mason Washington made it a double-digit lead for the navy and white.

After adding a run apiece in each of the fifth and sixth innings, the Spartans led 14-1 going into the seventh. Anferney Hoeve pitched a clean inning to close it out.

Sieglitz earned the win with five solid innings. The junior allowed just four hits and one unearned run to improve to 3-1. Trevor Chaney came on in the sixth and needed just six pitches to retire the Pirates in order.

The Spartans' next challenge will be against Harris-Stowe in a home doubleheader on Tuesday. First pitch is scheduled for 1 pm.
