SPARTANS SHUT DOWN PIRATES IN DES MOINES

ST. LOUIS—Men's volleyball faced off with Park University (Mo.) for their second day of pool play on Wednesday. MBU claimed their fourth win over the Pirates this season, cruising to victory in three sets. With this win, the No. 1 seeded Spartans remain undefeated, advancing to a season record of 30-0.

Set one was a game of back and forth, as the teams traded possession throughout. The score was even at 11 apiece when a kill from Cameron Hibbler, followed by a service ace from Miljan Kastratovic put them in the lead for the last time (14-12). The Spartans would go on to take set one, 25-18.

Errors plagued the Pirates early on in set two, allowing MBU to take a five-point lead (7-2). They eventually recuperated, tying the score at 10-10, then taking the lead (12-10). From there, the teams went point for point, dishing out kills on either side. At 15-15, two more errors from Park put the Spartans ahead, once again. They'd maintain the lead, claiming set two, 25-20.

Set three was all Missouri Baptist, as they rolled out to a six-point lead (9-3). Park tried for another comeback, but the Spartans stayed steps ahead. MBU led 14-10 when Park Head Coach Mike Talamantes called for a timeout. The break would not play to their advantage, however, as the Spartans continued to dominate at the net. A kill from sophomore Gabe Norsigian would seal the deal, granting MBU the sweep, 25-15.

Luka Cajic and Cameron Hibbler each earned eight total kills, leading the match with attack percentages of .500 and .583, respectively. Hibbler also recorded a season-high of eight blocks.

The Spartans close out pool play on Thursday, April 18. They will take on 2018 National Invitational Champion, Grand View University at 7 p.m.
