ST. LOUIS – Missouri Baptist University men's tennis student-athlete
Lucas Lobao is the latest Spartan to be named to a Google Cloud Academic All-District® Team, selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). On Thursday, Lobao was named to the 2019 Google Cloud Academic All-District® At-Large Team for District 3.
Acknowledged as one of the most selective and prestigious awards in college athletics, the Google Cloud Academic All-America® program recognizes the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performance on the field/court and in the classroom. The At-Large category is even more selective as nominations are schools are limited to four at-large candidates per gender, which includes the eligible men's sports of fencing, golf, gymnastics, ice hockey, lacrosse, rifle, swimming & diving, tennis, volleyball, water polo and wrestling.
Lobao is one of 47 individuals recognized across four districts for the At-Large First Team. As a first-team honoree, the senior from Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, will now be placed on the Google Cloud Academic All-America® ballot where first-, second- and third-team (if applicable) selections will be announced on Tuesday, June 18.
A Business Administration major with a 3.98 GPA, Lobao put together back-to-back solid seasons for the MBU men's tennis team. In 2019, the senior was 7-5 overall at No. 3 singles and held down a spot on the Spartans' No. 1 doubles team with a 7-7 record. He is also set to receive the Daktronics-NAIA Men's Tennis Scholar-Athlete award later this week.
