ROCHESTER HILLS, Mich. – Missouri Baptist Men's Soccer played out a scoreless draw with Rochester University on Friday afternoon in Michigan. The Spartans are now 1-1-1 on the season.
Though the final score may have been 0-0, there were plenty of close calls for both sides. In the 37
th minute,
Davide Bucarelli denied a penalty kick by Rochester's Martin Ivezaj. The Spartans outshot the Warriors 10-9 in regulation and controlled possession for most of the day.
The match continued into overtime and MBU had a golden opportunity to claim the win in the second extra period. A foul in the Rochester box led to a penalty kick for the Spartans'
Mattia Giangrande. But just as Bucarelli denied the Rochester penalty earlier, the Warriors' Sam Manuvellpilai made the save on Giangrande and preserved the draw.
Each goalkeeper made six saves in the match. In his return from injury,
Brandon Boos led MBU with two shots on goal.
Missouri Baptist continues its road trip on Monday with a meeting against Concordia- Ann Arbor. Kickoff is scheduled for 11 am CST.
