ST. LOUIS—Missouri Baptist Women's Soccer dropped a 1-0 defeat to Friends University (Kan.) on Friday afternoon at CBC Field. The Spartans fell to 0-2 on the young season.
MBU controlled possession in the first half and held the visiting Falcons without even a single shot attempt. The Spartans had two corner kick attempts, the first of which was narrowly headed wide by senior defender
Jackie Hagan for the best chance of the first half.
Friends finally registered their first shot on goal in the 52
nd minute. Lea Coccetella delivered a long range free kick that troubled Spartan keeper
Jemica Artillaga. Artillaga was able to get a fingertip on it but couldn't prevent the ball from crossing the goal line. The Falcons took a 1-0 lead into the final half hour of the match.
The visitors had chances to add onto the advantage but Artillaga made four more saves to keep it a one-goal game. At the other end, the Spartans had their own chances but lacked the necessary finishing. Lauren Ferguson made four saves in goal for the Falcons to earn the win.
MBU Women's Soccer returns to action on Tuesday away to Missouri Valley. Kickoff in Marshall is scheduled for 7 p.m.
