NO. 8 SPARTANS SILENCE CENTRAL BAPTIST IN 3-0 SWEEP

ST. LOUIS – The No. 8 Missouri Baptist University women's volleyball team picked up its fifth consecutive sweep, breezing by Central Baptist College in the American Midwest Conference matchup on Tuesday. Set scores for the match were 25-10, 25-9, 25-16.

With the win, MBU moved to 6-1 on the season and 2-0 in the AMC, while the visiting Mustangs dropped to 8-6 overall and 3-2 in league play.

Heading into Tuesday's contest ranked No. 2 in the NAIA in hitting percentage (.299), the Spartans stayed true to form bumping their team average to .313 with another hitting performance above .400. Missouri Baptist hit .418 against CBC and had fewer than three attack errors in each set.

Equally impressive was MoBap's fourth straight match holding its opponent under .100. Leading the way defensively was versatile freshman outside hitter Maria Hanusik, who tallied 7 digs all in Set 1, and freshman setter Shannon McLain with 7 digs as well. The Spartans also registered 7 team blocks, paced by middle blockers Carlee Wise and Raylyn Dodd with three apiece.

Several Spartans were able to replicate their outstanding performances from last week against the Mustangs. Reigning AMC Attacker of the Week Isidora Stojovic played sparingly on Tuesday, but recorded 4 kills in the first set with a .500 hitting %. Like Stojovic, Spartan Athlete of the Week Emma Lattimore also averaged 4 kills per set against CBC in the second and third sets finishing with 8 kills, a .438 hitting %, 4 digs and 1 service ace.

The middle blocking duo of Raylyn Dodd and Carlee Wise overwhelmed the Mustangs at the net, combining for 16 kills on 23 attempts (.695) and 3.5 total blocks. Dodd put up a match-best and season-high 11 kills on 17 swings (.647), while Wise came up one kill short of being perfect with 5 kills on 6 attempts.

Other statistical leaders for the Spartans were McLain with 34 assists, fellow freshman Tessa Schneider with a match-best 3 service aces, and Liz van Houwelingen tying Dodd and Wise for the for the team lead in blocks with 3.

Up next for the No. 8 Missouri Baptist is one of its toughest tests yet in No. 18-ranked Columbia. The Spartans will travel to their AMC rival on Thursday (Oct. 22) with first serve set for 7 p.m.  With a no spectator policy at CC, fans are encouraged to watch the volleyball contest free of charge on the Cougar portal HERE.
