MEN’S SOCCER PREVAILS IN SLUGFEST OVER WILLIAMS BAPTIST

ST. LOUIS—MBU Men's Soccer (5-3, 4-1 AMC) concluded the fall portion of its schedule on a three-game winning streak after knocking off Williams Baptist (7-2, 3-2 AMC) 1-0 on Saturday night at Spartan Field.

In a tense match that featured six yellow cards and one red, the Spartans found just enough offense to sneak by. Seosamh Sheerin provided the only goal of the match in the 11th minute off an assist from Jack Carney.

The task of protecting that lead became significantly easier in the 74th minute when WBU's Stefano Silva was shown a second yellow card. The Eagles were forced to play the final 15 minutes with only 10 men.

From there, the Spartans relied on rock solid defense and the goalkeeping of graduate senior Wessel Berenschot. The product of Apeldoorn, Netherlands made seven saves to earn his third straight clean sheet.

Missouri Baptist finishes the fall schedule in second place in the AMC with 12 points. The Spartans are three points back of Columbia (5-0). MBU will face Lyon, William Woods, and Harris-Stowe when the season resumes in March. The AMC Postseason Tournament is scheduled for the first week of April.
