ST. LOUIS—Freshman
Skyla Koch scored a late first half goal and MBU Women's Soccer (2-1, 2-1 AMC) held on in the second half to preserve a victory over Central Baptist College (2-4, 1-1 AMC) on Friday afternoon at Spartan Field.
Despite dominant possession numbers, the Spartans couldn't quite get the offense in sync for the majority of the first half against a Mustangs team determined to hold its defensive shape. MBU managed just a single shot on goal in the opening 45 minutes. Luckily, however, that shot found the back of the net.
Just minutes after coming on as a sub late in the period,
Skyla Koch took a headed pass forward from
Maddie Mrazik. Koch turned toward goal and took advantage of shooting space given to her by the CBC defenders. The freshman picked the far corner with a blistering shot, giving no chance to goalkeeper Jayme Selph.
The Spartans would put five on goal in the second half but were unable to beat Selph again.
Madi Dunahue led the way with three on net. CBC, meanwhile, only attempted two shots for the day with MBU keeper
Hanna Harrison only needing to make one save to earn her second career clean sheet.
The Spartans are once again home next Wednesday for a meeting with Harris Stowe. Kickoff is scheduled for 6 pm at Spartan Field with the live broadcast available on SpartanDigitalNetwork.com.
