HENDERSON, Tenn. – MBU Men's Basketball (14-13, 10-11 AMC) couldn't find the defensive answers in a 106-77 loss to Freed-Hardeman (17-8, 14-6 AMC) on Saturday afternoon.
In the final road game of the regular season, the Spartans were beaten up in nearly every aspect. The score may have reflected a close contest at halftime (43-36) but it was in the second period that the Lions really pulled away. Junior Kortland Martin and senior Bryan Battle could not be stopped. The pair erupted for 46 of the Lions' 63 points in the final 20 minutes. Martin finished with 44 for the game while Battle had 31.
Offensively for Missouri Baptist,
Naod Rezene posted with a new career-high of 14 points. All total, six of the eight Spartans who saw floor time reached double figures.
Despite the loss, the Spartans are still on the verge of clinching a spot in the AMC Tournament as the eight seed. MBU is a half game of ahead of William Woods, who completed its season with a loss to Williams Baptist on Saturday. Through a tangled web of tiebreakers, the Spartans could have their place assured before next Saturday's regular season finale against Hannibal. Even if things don't fall their way during the week though, Mo. Bap will control its own destiny with a home win over the Trojans.
Tip time next Saturday is set for 3 pm at the Carl and Deloris Petty SRC. The senior day ceremony will take place prior to the game.
