ST. LOUIS, Mo. – Missouri Baptist men's volleyball extended their winning streak on Thursday, collecting another sweep against the St. Louis College of Pharmacy Eutectics. The Spartans hit .463 as a team and were led by strong performances from
Thomas Beye and
Will Merzweiler.
The Mobap starters handled the first set with ease, defeating the newly formed volleyball program 25-8.
Luka Cajic collected five kills and not far behind was
Drew Iliff and
Miljan Kastratovic with two.
MBU made a few changes to the lineup in a much closer set two. The Eutectics jumped out to an early 10-7 lead over the Spartans after several MBU attack errors.
Determined not to let a set slip away, the Spartans rattled off points on 11 of the next 13 plays to go up 18-12. Later in the set, freshman
Job Faber found
Will Merzweiler for a set-ending kill to go up 2-0.
The offense caught fire once again in set three collecting the first seven points of the match behind several kills from Beye and Merzweiler. Missouri Baptist went on to win the third set 25-7 and the match with a 3-0 sweep.
Beye led the match with nine kills and hit .353 while Merzweiler collected eight kills and a .545 hitting percentage. Faber took over for Harman as the setter and posted 22 assists in two sets.
On defense,
Skyler Capllonch had six digs in the first set alone.
Stephen Menzel led the team with eight digs over the next two sets.
Gabe Norsigian was solid up front denying five Eutectic attacks.
The Spartans pushed their record to 21-3 overall and still remain 3-1 in conference play after the dominant road win.
Missouri Baptist Men's Volleyball hits the road once again on March 3 to take on the (RV) Missouri Valley College Vikings. The opening serve is scheduled for 7 p.m.
