SPARTAN SOFTBALL DROPS TWO OF THREE MONDAY GAMES

CLERMONT, Fla. –Missouri Baptist Softball lost two of three games in Monday's triple header, defeating Saint Ambrose in game two while falling to (RV) Lawrence Tech and William Penn in games one and three. Sophomore Addison Rinderer had a huge performance in game two, leading the Spartans to victory pitching five shutout innings while surrendering just two hits.
 
Game One: (RV) Lawrence Tech – L, 1-4
The Spartans got off to a strong start in the first game against the Blue Devils scoring the first run in the bottom of the first. Jordan Corby doubled in the second at-bat of the inning that set the stage for Caitlin McNiff's RBI double.
 
Freshman Haley Tate and the Spartan defense kept Lawrence Tech quiet for a majority of the game until the top of the seventh. The Blue Devils plated four runs on four hits and two MBU errors to put them up 4-1.
 
The Spartans were not able to recover in the bottom half of the inning, dropping their record to two games below the .500 mark.
 
Game Two: St. Ambrose University – W, 6-0
The ladies again got off to a quick start in the first inning of game two, posting the first two runs of the game against the Fighting Bees. Allison Pingel brought home the first run with a single to the shortstop and McNiff plated Corby with an RBI single to right field.
 
The Spartans scored two more in the top of the fourth when Corby took an 0-1 offering deep over the left-field fence for a two-run home run. The lead was extended even further in the sixth when McNiff tallied two more RBIs on a double to center field.
 
Allison Rinderer was spectacular against St. Ambrose, posting five shutout innings allowing just two hits while striking out six. Ally Dunaway came in in the final two innings allowing no hits and no walks.
 
MBU took their third victory of the PFX Spring Games against the Fighting Bees with a 6-0 final score.
 
Game Three: William Penn University – L, 1-3
For the third game in a row, the Spartans scored a run in the first inning when Amber Mobbs scored on an errant Statesman throw. William Penn turned around and scored two runs in the bottom half to take an early 2-1 lead.
 
The Spartans were shutout after the first inning while their counterparts plated another in the third, taking Monday's final game with a 3-1 final.
 
Delissa Dennison had a strong outing throwing five innings allowing just two earned runs with three strikeouts and no walks. Katelyn Turbyfill, Rachel Galbraith, and Caitlin McNiff picked up the only Spartan hits in the game.
 
Next Game:
Missouri Baptist Softball wraps up their Florida trip with a pair of games tomorrow against Thomas More University and Lourdes University. Game times are set for 9 a.m. and 11:30 a.m.
