SPARTANS FALL TO TROJANS ON THE ROAD

DEERFIELD, Ill. – Missouri Baptist football was defeated by Trinity International University on Saturday, losing 21-14 on the road. The Spartans dropped their sixth consecutive contest and fell to 0-5 in the Mid-States Football Association Midwest division.

Darius Morrison got his team off on the right foot early in the first quarter after a sack from Marcus Paddack forced an eventual missed field goal try from TIU on the opening drive. A 32-yard pass from Cole Martin and a four-yard rush from Ronald Allen proceeded Morrison's 36-yard touchdown reception to put his team up 7-0.

Two drives later, the Trojans found the endzone when quarterback Derrick Taylor found Khalid Humphrey for a 20-yard touchdown pass. A missed PAT kept the Spartans ahead 7-6.

MBU widened their lead with a few minutes remaining in the first half. Martin and Allen continued to move their team down the field, capping off a seven-play, 45-yard drive with a six-yard touchdown rush from Allen.

Things took a turn for the worse, however. With four minutes remaining in the third, the Trojans returned a fumble 42 yards to the house to pull within two. Early in the fourth, Taylor found Humphrey for a touchdown again, followed by a field goal five minutes later.

The Spartan offense was shut out in the second half, succumbing to the TIU comeback and handing the team their sixth consecutive loss after starting 2021 with a 3-0 record.

On offense, Ronald Allen posted another impressive performance, carrying the ball 19 times for 72 yards and a touchdown while also catching five passes for 50 yards. Other notable stats include Gavin Claud's six catches and Cole Martin's 222 passing yards.

Defensively, Giovanoi Sanes led the team with six tackles and two tackles for a loss, while Marcus Paddack dropped the opposing quarterback for the team's only sack.

Missouri Baptist football finishes out the season with a pair of home matches. First, on November 6 against Judson University, followed by St. Ambrose University on November 13.
