ST. LOUIS—On Senior Night at Spartan Field, MBU Men's Soccer executed a meticulous defensive game plan to hold No. 6 Columbia to a 0-0 draw. The Spartans finish the regular season sixth in the conference standings and will have a short trip to face Harris-Stowe next Saturday afternoon in the AMC Quarterfinals.
The Spartans were outshot 5-1 on Saturday night but rigid defending from center backs
Richie Taylor and
Ross Wilson and goalkeeping from
Wessel Berenschot made life difficult for Columbia.
The Cougars needed a win to secure the regular season AMC title, but their Mo Bap rivals were able to spoil the party. As a result, CC will be the two-seed in next week's AMC Tournament.
For the Spartans (6-8-2, 3-3-2 AMC), they'll be looking for a matter of revenge when they travel to Harris-Stowe (13-4, 5-3 AMC) next weekend. The Hornets won the last meeting 1-0 on October 20 by way of an overtime penalty kick.
Start time on November 6 is scheduled for 1 pm at Hornets Field.
