MCPHERSON, Kan. – After playing tough through four quarters, overtime was needed to determine a winner in Missouri Baptist Women's Basketball second game at the McPherson College Classic, but the Spartans went cold offensively in the extra frame and took their second loss of the season in as many games.
MoBap endured a back-and-forth battle throughout with Bethel College (Kan.), with the end of the fourth quarter coming down to a
Joelle Atkins score with six seconds left to tie it at 81 and send things to OT. The Thresher offense then lit up, going on a 14-1 run in the final period, and took the game 98-84.
Five MBU players reached double digits, led by senior
Tionne Taylor for the second time, who had 18.
Rose Wassef chipped in 17 and six assists, and forwards
Alexis Allstun and
Joelle Atkins had 16 and 12, respectively. Junior guard
Kamryn Mack was a spark off the bench, contributing with 11 points.
The Bethel offense was powered by Kendall Michalski, who dropped 40 on 7-for-16 shooting, doing most of her damage from three and at the free throw line by sinking six 3-pointers and 20 of 22 from the charity stripe. Troi Lucas also contributed 20 points for the Threshers.
The Spartans were outscored 42-24 in points off turnovers and 13-5 in fast break scoring, but controlled the points in the paint by a margin of 60-38.
