ST. LOUIS – The Spartans landed six players on the Mid-States Football Association Midwest Division All-Conference Teams, including Jaylen Cowley on the first team and a pair on the second team.
Cowley, a senior strong safety from Raytown, Missouri, collected all-conference first-team honors for the third consecutive year after 2021 saw him lead his team in tackles with 79 while adding six tackles for a loss. He was also instrumental in shutting down opposing passing attacks with one interception, four pass breakups, and a forced fumble.
Another crucial piece to the offense found himself on the MSFA Midwest All-Conference Second Team after a breakout campaign. Senior running back Ronald Allen from Granite City, Illinois, was a force all season, leading the Spartans with 798 rushing yards and nine touchdowns. Allen was especially effective early in the season, posting a combined 365 yards and six touchdowns through the team's first three games to lead MBU to their first 3-0 start in program history.
Junior kicker Odaine Reid was named to the second-team special teams lineup after an impressive first year in football. After being picked up from the MBU men's soccer team early in the football season, Reid made eight field goals in nine games, went 9 for 11 on extra-point attempts, and set the school record for a 53-yard field goal against Saint Xavier.
Three Spartans were also named to the honorable mention teams. On the offensive line, Thomas Smith and K.J. Satcher received the nod. On defense, freshman Giovanoi Sanes was honored after posting eight sacks and 17 TFLs to kick start his college career.
With the contributions of these all-conference recipients, Missouri Baptist tied the mark for the program's most wins in a single season. The Spartans will look to continue building on their successes in 2022.
