WOMEN'S BASKETBALL STORMS PAST STEPHENS, 83-45

COLUMBIA, Mo. – Missouri Baptist Women's Basketball took care of business Wednesday evening as it cruised to an 83-45 win on the road at Stephens College. The Spartans once again had a well-balanced attack with five players scoring in double figures for the second straight outing, while defensively, MBU held its opponent under 45 points for the third time in four games.

With Wednesday's win at Silverthorne Arena, MBU remains undefeated in away games this year improving to 8-0. Harris-Stowe State and Friday's makeup date is all that sits between the Spartans and an unblemished road record for 2020-21. ***Away games at (21) Lyon and (RV) Columbia were unable to be rescheduled due to availability of both teams and open dates remaining.

In a season full of twists and turns, one constant for the Missouri Baptist women's basketball team (14-5, 10-3 AMC) has been its ability to string together wins in succession. On three separate occurrences now, the MBU Women have assembled a four-game winning streak including the current stretch with 'W's over Health Sciences & Pharmacy, Hannibal-LaGrange, Central Baptist and Stephens.

In order to keep legs fresh and prepared for three more games in three days, all but one of MBU's starters saw 16 minutes of action or less. That opened the door for several Spartans to step up on Wednesday. Rising to the occasion off the bench was the quartet consisting of Kim Shaw, Rose Wassef, Sara Hermosa and Kamryn Mack. The four connected on eight 3s, shot 16-of-34 (.470) from the field, and combined for 19 of MBU's 36 rebounds and 10 of MBU's 19 assists.

The Spartans used big runs in the first and third quarters to put plenty of distance between themselves and the Stars. The one anomaly of the bunch was in the second period when Stephens marginally outscored the Spartans, 15-13. Any scrap of momentum for the Stars heading into halftime was wiped away as MBU outscored the home team 27-8 in the third quarter.

Stat leaders on the night included Taylor Norris with a game-high 15 points and 4 assists, Alexis Allstun with a game-high 3 blocks in addition to her 12 points, Rose Wassef with a game-high 3 steals to go with 10 points, 4 rebounds and 3 assists and Sara Hermosa and Kamryn Mack, who tied for the team lead in rebounds (6) and went for 10 and 9 points, respectively. Mack's performances in scoring and rebounding were both career highs.

The Spartans will look to complete the season sweep of William Woods on Thursday within the familiar confines of the Carl and Deloris Petty Sports & Recreation Complex. Tip is scheduled for 5:30 p.m.
