SOFTBALL DROPS FINAL TWO REGULAR SEASON GAMES TO CBC

CONWAY, ARK. – Missouri Baptist softball dropped a pair of conference games to Central Baptist College on Saturday to round out their regular season. The Spartans own a 14-12 overall record and are locked into the three seed heading into the AMC tournament with an 11-7 record.

Shelby Sievers took the circle for the Spartans in game one and held the Mustangs to a pair of runs scored in the fourth inning. Her team would trail, however, for a majority of the game and into the seventh inning.

With their backs against the wall, Sievers started the inning with a one-out single and was pinch ran for by Megan Pfeiffer. Allison Pingel advanced the runner with a single followed by a walk from Kaitlyn Chadwick to load the bases with one away.

Haley Tate stepped up and grounded into a fielder's choice to bring in a run before a throwing error from the CBC shortstop brought in Pfeiffer from second to tie the game.

After working out of the jam, the Mustangs were held scoreless once again by Sievers in the bottom of the seventh to send the game to extra innings.

The MBU offense was quiet once again in the top of the eighth. In the bottom half, Ally Dunaway was called upon to relieve Sievers with one out and the bases loaded. The senior captain got a pop out and a strikeout to keep the game tied heading into the ninth.

CBC shut the Spartans down in the top half and won the game in the bottom half on a walk-off home run to lead off the inning.

The Mustangs then came out in game two and beat the visitors with a 9-1 final. Sievers drove in the only run of the ballgame for her team with a home run to center field, her third of the year.

Softball has a brief hiatus before the AMC Softball Championship tournament kicks off on May 5 in Columbia, Missouri.
