COLUMBIA, Mo. – For the second straight season, MBU Women's Soccer was held down by (13) Columbia College in the AMC Championship game. On Thursday night at R. Marvin Owens Field, it was the Cougars who came out on top by a 1-0 final score.
Scoring chances were hard to come by for both teams on a cold, rainy night in Columbia – conditions more akin to mid-November when the AMC Championship is usually played.
Neither team had a shot on goal for the majority of the first half though Columbia had more possession to go along with five shot attempts. The Cougars' breakthrough finally arrived in the 56
th minute. Off a free kick, Isabella Govero narrowly stayed onside and scored with a pinpoint header past MBU keeper
Hanna Harrison.
The Spartans responded with their first three shots of the game with the best opportunity coming on a chance for
Gianna Gore. But CC keeper Kate Marshall was solid and would not be beaten on this night. Each team would finish with three shots on goal.
A season that began back on October 3 came to a close for Missouri Baptist. The Spartans finish with an overall record of 9-6. Columbia (15-2) captured its sixth consecutive AMC Postseason Tournament title and will advance to the NAIA National Championship Opening Round.
