ST. LOUIS – The winning streak for No. 4-ranked Missouri Baptist University Women's Volleyball reached double digits on Tuesday evening with a conference sweep over University of Health Sciences & Pharmacy. The roster from top to bottom contributed in the 25-12, 25-22, 25-15 win as the Spartans cruised to victories in Sets 1 and 3 but had to battle from behind in the second set.
In addition to winning its 10
th match in a row, Missouri Baptist also logged sweep No. 10 on the season while improving to 14-2 overall and 2-0 in the AMC. After kicking off their AMC schedule with a win over Stephens College, the Eutectics have now lost two straight Top-25 matchups in conference to drop to 6-15, 1-2 AMC.
Aside from the service line where UHSP held a 5-3 advantage in aces, the Spartans overwhelmed the visitors in every other area. MBU out-hit the Eutectics .413% to .046% with a 51-22 advantage in kills and out-blocked them 7-1.
The Spartans' normal starters laid down the groundwork in Set 1, posting a match-best .484 hitting percentage with 16 kills and just one attack error. On the other side of the net, Health Sciences & Pharmacy struggled to get any offense going and finished in the negatives (-.091) due to more errors (8) than kills (5).
It was a slow start for the Spartans in the second set falling behind 4-0 in the earlygoing. The Eutectics led by as much as five and kept the lead up until the 14-14 mark. MoBap used a 10-3 run to bounce back and claim its first lead of the set at 16-15, but it wasn't out of the woods yet. Despite strong play from several Spartans like

Maria Hanusik,
Kaili Smith, and
Sara Klunder, UHSP wasn't going away narrowing the margin to one at 23-22. MBU put it away with back-to-back kills from
Liz van Houwelingen and Smith.
The third and final set had a similar vibe to the opener with MBU having its way at the net. Four of the Spartans' seven blocks came in Set 3 and was paired with a well-rounded attack. MBU once again hit above .400% with
Raylyn Dodd and
Emma Lattimore scoring four kills apiece and
Carlee Wise and Hanusik each recording three kills and two block assists.
Junior setter
Abby Braswell achieved a new career-high on Tuesday with a match-best 18 assists. She surpassed her previous high of 10 that was set in 2020 at Hannibal-LaGrange. Others who recorded new career bests included
Kaili Smith with career-highs in kills (8), attempts (14), and digs (3), and
Natalie Edson with a new career-high in assists (7).
The Spartans have another mid-week AMC match at home as they host Hannibal-LaGrange University (6-7, 2-1 AMC) on Thursday at 6 p.m.
