TAYLOR STAYS HOT, SCORES 31 IN SPARTANS’ SECOND STRAIGHT WIN

COLUMBIA, Mo. – Missouri Baptist Women's Basketball went on the road on Thursday night looking to win back-to-back games and put together a new winning streak for the first time since conference play started. The Spartans (8-10, 5-3 AMC) answered the bell with a 65-56 win against the Stephens College Stars (6-9, 2-6 AMC) to notch their fifth conference victory and eighth of the season.

The Stars were looking to snap an eight-game losing skid to the Spartans, but after taking a 34-32 lead to half time, the home side wound up unsuccessful. A big third quarter that saw MoBap outscore Stephens by 10 propelled MBU on to victory. Tionne Taylor, fresh off her game against Central Baptist where she eclipsed 1,000 career points, decided to keep the offensive roll going, pouring in 31 on 8-of-16 shooting. Also contributing with a new career high in scoring was forward Kayleigh Winch with 15.

With the performance, Taylor pushed her scoring average to 18.2 per game, and nearly equaled her season high of 33, which she had against Grand View earlier in the season. Other statistical leaders included forward Joelle Atkins, who had eight rebounds off the bench, and seniors Rose Wassef and Jalexis Russell with three assists apiece, respectively.

The win was the closest margin of victory for MoBap against Stephens since the 2016-17 season. The Spartans have dominated the matchup over the last few seasons, winning by an average margin of victory of 28.1 points over the now nine game winning streak.

The win helped push the Spartans into a three-way tie for third place in the AMC with University of Health Sciences & Pharmacy and Williams Baptist University. MBU has one game remaining before reaching the hallway mark of nine games in the conference season. Missouri Baptist will face William Woods in that midpoint matchup on Saturday, Jan. 22nd at 1:00 PM at home in the Carl & Deloris Petty SRC.
