BATESVILLE, Ark. – Missouri Baptist Women's Basketball (5-8, 2-1 AMC) had no answers for a lockdown Lyon College (10-4, 2-1 AMC) defense on Thursday night. The Spartans shot just 21.6% from the field (11-51) in a 54-27 defeat.
It wasn't pretty basketball from either side in the first half. The two sides combined for 17 field goals and 41 total points. After a layup by
Alexis Allstun at the buzzer, Lyon held a 25-16 lead heading into the locker room.
The Scots came out of halftime with a defensive game plan that befuddled the Spartan attack. MBU missed all 12 FG attempts in the third quarter and finished the frame with one point. Lyon didn't exactly light it up offensively either but still managed 13 points. They entered the final quarter with a commanding 38-17 lead.
The Spartans recovered, somewhat, in the final 10 minutes but the damage was done. Taylor's seven points finished as a team high for MBU.
Lauren Ebert led in rebounds with nine.
The schedule doesn't relent on Saturday when the Spartans travel to Columbia for a 1 pm tip. Missouri Baptist returns home next Tuesday for a matchup with Williams Baptist.
