ST. LOUIS – Missouri Baptist Women's Soccer (7-3-2, 3-0 AMC) displayed prominent offensive strategy in Saturday's match that led to a 6-0 victory over Williams Baptist University (0-9-1, 0-2 AMC). Prior to Saturday's match, MBU celebrated 13 seniors who have immensely impacted the program during their time at Missouri Baptist. The Spartans will move forward in hopes to continue their four-game winning streak.
It took only one minute for the Spartans to open the scoring when senior Brianna Merchant's long pass up field was retrieved by forward Mara George. George sent a straight shot to goal despite being rushed by an Eagle defender.
Only six minutes later, Emma Selsor received a short ball that collected pressure from WBU's defense. On quick thought, Selsor found Mara George downfield who was able to stream a pass to the feet of Jordyn Besserman. The senior transfer from UHSP put herself in the perfect position to tap the ball into the lower left corner of the net.
The scoring didn't stop for the Spartans. In the 19th minute, Gianna Gore followed a cleared pass, from Mara George, all the way up the field and made a wide-open shot that traveled just above the goalkeeper's dive.
Four minutes later, Madi Dunahue scored her second goal of the season and made it 4-0 off a cross from Piper Brown. Still in the first half, Gianna George punched in her second goal of the game, and fourth of the season, advancing it past the goalkeeper and walking the ball into the net. Missouri Baptist took a 5-0 lead into halftime≥
The final goal of the day came late with just under four minutes to go. Claire Andersen lofted a shot over a mass of players in the box and out of reach in the upper left side of the net.
The final shot count was an impressive 16-2 in favor of the Spartans. Missouri Baptist managed 11 on goal to just 2 for the Eagles. Hanna Harrison played a full 90 minutes in the MBU net but was idle most of the match seeing just two shots come her way. The House Springs, Mo. senior pulled in both for two saves.
MoBap remains at home with tough mid-week test welcoming Harris-Stowe State University (8-1-1, 2-0 AMC) to Spartan Field on Oct. 12 at 7 p.m.
