FULTON, Mo. – In the face of having another weather delayed Thursday matchup get moved back nearly a day, Missouri Baptist women's basketball (16-11, 13-4 AMC) bounced out of Anderson Arena with a 62-48 win against William Woods (9-18, 6-11 AMC). It is the Spartans' fifth road win in a row.
Mobap controlled the game from beginning to end, unlike their first meeting with the Owls where the Spartans needed to comeback after a horrid first half and 22-point deficit. This time around, MBU served up a wire-to-wire victory performance and led by double-digits for the majority of the second half, building its edge to as much as 16 at multiple points.
Things started off well offensively with the first Spartan possession, when
Alexis Allstun found herself open at the top of the key and stroked home a 3-pointer 11 seconds in. The trey was just Allstun's second attempt all season from beyond the arc and immediately set the tone for the rest of the game. The junior from Jackson, Mo. ended things with a 14-point and 12-rebound double-double, her third of the season.
Senior
Jalexis Russell was yet again a force off the bench and the leader in points with 16 for the visitors. Other notable Spartan performances included
Tionne Taylor (14 points, four assists, two steals),
Lauren Ebert (seven points, three rebounds) and
Rose Wassef (seven points, four assists) all contributing wholly to the convincing win.
The Spartans have now wrapped a third-place finish in the AMC regular season and have locked up the third seed in the postseason conference tournament following the midweek results from second-place Columbia and fourth-place UHSP.
For the second time this season because of a winter weather postponement, Missouri Baptist will be forced to play on back-to-back days. Stephens College will make the trip to the Petty SRC on Saturday, Feb. 19 for a 1:00 PM contest, marking the final regular season game and Senior Day for the 2021-22 squad.
