BLUE MOUNTAIN, MISS. – Softball struggled to find consistent offense on the road over the weekend being outscored 28-9 over four games.
Pitching was the bright side of game one against the Blue Mountain Toppers as
Shelby Sievers put together a solid outing. The 2021 AMC First Team All-Conference pitcher only allowed two runs over six innings while striking out two. Four Spartans registered a hit in game one with
Madalyn Bone leading the way collecting two of the Spartans six hits. MoBap would leave eight runners on base failing to score any runs, falling 2-0.
The Spartans struggled again in game two registering on five hits while once again leaving eight runners on.
Haley Tate struggled on the mound allowing six runs, five earned over 3.2 innings of work. Tate did however pick up four strikeouts.
Kaylee Morris went 2-for-3 at the plate to lead Spartan offense. MBU fell 8-0 in this one and moved to 0-2 on the season.
The Toppers offense was locked in during game three as Tate allowed 10 runs on 18 hits over four innings of work. The Spartan offense finally put runs on the board scoring two runs on six hits as six different players registered a hit. Morris and Bone would both cross home plate as Tate and
Kolby Brake each collected an RBI. Bone went 1-for-3, registering a hit in each of the first three games of the season. Although MoBap's offense saw improvement they would drop game three 10-2 and fall to 0-3 on the season.
During the final and most exciting game of the road trip against the Toppers, MoBap was able to out-hit BMC, 10 hits to seven. The Spartans put up seven runs including four in the second inning. MoBap used that second inning to take and maintain the lead all the way until the bottom of the seventh and final inning. The Toppers had some home field magic as they scored two runs in the bottom of the seventh to walk off Missouri Baptist, winning 8-7. Emma Eaton and
Kaitlynn Hannah led the Spartan attack with two hits apiece.
Natalie Archer scored two runs and Bone extended her hitting streak to four games going 1-for-3 while collecting an RBI.
Missouri Baptist Softball will take a short break before heading to Nevada, Mo. on March 4 to take on the Comets of Cottey College. The doubleheader is set to begin at 10:00 AM.
