ST. LOUIS – Missouri Baptist women's lacrosse (3-1, 0-0 KCAC) bounced back from its first loss of the season on Monday night, shellacking Cornell College 12-1 under the lights at Spartan Field.
The No. 10 Spartans earned their third win of the season through a complete performance from defense to attack. Despite the cold of the evening, the offense came out hot. Midfielders
Jordan Haeusser and
Ashley Avery both ripped off two goals each in the first 10 minutes, with attacker
Kamryn Bell assisting on both of Haeusser's scores. Graduate senior
Gianna D'Alto followed those up with her first goal as a Spartan soonafter, giving the home side a 5-0 lead.
The defense was just as impressive for Mobap, keeping Cornell from registering a shot the entire first quarter. Over the first half, the Spartan attack put up 13 shots in the first and second quarters and the defense only allowed two, making the tally 26-2 after one half of action.
Avery would secure a hat trick later in the first half, and Haeusser would complete hers in the second half with a free position shot. Haeusser also assisted on two to lead MBU in points with five on the day. Avery followed with four. Bell, with her three total assists, and junior
Chayleb Deves (two goals, one assist) and freshman
Lydia Cornett (two goals, one assist) also had three points.
The Spartans showed active hands and won the forcing of turnovers battle 8-4, as well as the overall turnover margin 22-17 in the home side's favor. Haeusser, Cornett,
MacKaylee Miller and
Rebekah Broughton all picked up a pair of caused turnovers for MBU.
Missouri Baptist will open up conference play on Thursday, March 10th as University of Saint Mary (Kan.) comes to town. The opening draw will be at 4:00 PM and will be the second of three games this week for Mobap.
